The Melody of a Fresh Start: From a Poem to a Song

Music has always been my sanctuary. When words feel too heavy to carry, a melody gives them wings.

I started writing this poem during one of the hardest chapters of my life while I was in rehab. At that time, the words were a way to process the shame and the "bizarre" reality of how far I had fallen. But I didn't finish it there. I finished it just a few months ago, standing on the "solid ground" I worked so hard to find.

Turning Verse into Voice

Transforming these words into a song was a vital part of my healing. To me, the first half of the song feels like a slow, somber acoustic arrangement, capturing the weight of my broken heart.

But as the lyrics shift toward the sun glistening and the sound of laughter, the tempo picks up.

I wanted the music to reflect my Road to Redemption:

  • The Verse: Raw and honest reflection on the past.

  • The Bridge: The moment I decided that the old chapter had to die.

  • The Chorus: A celebratory, upbeat anthem for the "best version of me."

"The peace I feel now cannot be bought."

I hope that by sharing these lyrics and this melody, I can remind anyone listening that no matter how lost you feel, you can always be found.

I Can’t Believe (The Best Version of Me)

By: Michele Soda

(Verse 1)

My eyes begin to fill with tears As I think about all the shame, There's only one person I could blame

I can't believe it lasted this long In my heart, I know I'm strong As I tried to numb all of my pain I realized there wasn't anything to gain

All it did was make things worse I was really close to ending up in a hearse

(Verse 2)

I can't believe a man made me this hurt , Then began to drag my name through the dirt

In the end, everything fell apart. And I had to pick up the pieces of my broken heart

I can't believe I let things go this far. When I think about it now, it's so bizarre

That chapter of my life had to die So I could move forward, I had to try

(Chorus)

To continue going on a different path.Don't cross me now, or you'll feel my wrath

I can't believe I'm finally putting this all behind .

One thing's for sure, I'll never rewind My life now has a whole new perception As I walk along this road to redemption.

(Verse 3)

I can’t believe I finally turned my life around .The woman I thought was lost was finally found. Now I stand tall on this solid ground .The changes in my world are so profound

I can’t believe I started this whole new chapter. My daily medicine now is constant laughter

(Bridge)

It took me a long time to get where I’m at today. All those nights I use to sit and pray

I can’t believe GOD was really listening, Then I look up at the sky and I see the sun glistening

(Outro)

Everyday I realize that I am really blessed .No more staying awake at night because I’m stressed. I can’t believe I have no more racing thoughts The peace I feel now can not be bought .

I live my life now just letting things be Because I am finally the best version of me.
