Part 1: It’s Never Too Late to Rewrite Your Story (Getting Tired of Your Own Bullshit)
Updated: Aug 14
We’ve all heard the cliché: “It’s never too late to change your life.”
It sounds great on a motivational poster or an inspirational social media caption. But when you are sitting in the wreckage of a life you don't recognize, trapped in a toxic situation, feeling stuck, stagnant, and completely suffocated that phrase can feel like a cruel joke.
I know, because I lived it.
I used to be a successful business professional, thriving as a trade show manager running large-scale exhibitions across the United States. I was passionate, driven, and capable. But then life shifted. I left the career I loved, had my beautiful daughter, and slowly, almost imperceptibly, sank into a toxic environment.
Comfort became a trap. Because I felt like I had nowhere to go, and because I feared jeopardizing my relationship with my daughter, I stayed. I stayed years longer than I should have, desperately hoping things would change.
They didn't. They just got worse.
The Downward Spiral and the "Pity Party"
To cope with the pain, the abuse, the trauma, and the mental health struggles, I sank deep into addiction. My life did a complete 180. I went from a powerhouse corporate businesswoman to hitting rock bottom.
Looking back now with clear eyes, I can admit that for a long time, I had a victim mentality. I threw myself massive pity parties. I spent years depressed, hating my life, and using drugs to numb the reality of it all.
Then, the universe forced my hand.
When things finally hit the fan for the absolute last time, I was evicted from my home. In an instant, the world I had built for myself and my daughter was completely destroyed. I felt shattered.
But looking back now, I realize something profound: Sometimes, things have to fall apart completely so you can finally put yourself back together and break the patterns that were keeping you stuck.
That eviction notice wasn't just an ending; it was a massive wake-up call. It stripped away the illusions and forced me to see the truth: I was settling for a fraction of what I wanted, needed, and deserved.
Getting Tired of Your Own Bullshit
I have never seen a true, lasting life transition that didn't begin with a person finally getting sick and tired of their own bullshit.
It is easy to blame our circumstances, our pasts, or the toxic people in our lives. And make no mistake... the struggles are real, the trauma is real, and the pain is heavy. But there comes a point where you have to look in the mirror and realize that you should NEVER let someone else dictate YOUR life. Because it is YOUR life.
Sometimes, it takes hitting the absolute bottom, getting entirely sick and tired of being sick and tired, to finally get off your ass and do something about it.
Every Chapter Features a Different You
Here is the most beautiful thing I learned through the wreckage: every single time I have had to rewrite my story, I was a different person. I am a completely different woman today than I was even just one year ago.
You don't have to wait to become the "old you" again. I am not trying to recreate the trade show manager from a decade ago. I am building someone new, someone wiser, fiercer, and completely unbreakable.
You are the author of your own life. You hold the pen. It doesn’t matter how many years you lost to addiction, abuse, or trauma.
It is never too late to:
Begin a brand-new chapter.
Throw in a massive, unexpected plot twist.
Change the genre of your life entirely.
If you are not happy with the page you are currently on, turn it. If you don't like the script, rewrite it. Stop waiting for someone else to save you or for circumstances to magically improve. Pick up the pen.
Coming Up Next in Part 2:
Deciding to pick up the pen is only step one.
But what happens on Day 2, when the high of making a decision wears off and you are faced with the quiet, overwhelming work of actually rebuilding?
In Part 2, I’m pulling back the curtain on "What No One Tells You About Changing Your Life" including; how to navigate life with a clear mind, detoxing from old patterns, and the exact "Life Audit" system I used after inpatient to rebuild my life from scratch. Stay Tuned...
